OM NAMAH SHIVAYA-Mount Kailash General Information :

Mount Kailash General Information : Mount Maha Meru is a sacred mountain with five peaks and is considered to be the center of all the physical, metaphysical and spiritual universes .This legendary mountain has got width of around 18,000 nazhika ( a unit of measure for length prevailed in yesteryear ) and height of 2000 nazhika . Two peaks named Jaram & DevaKudam are on the east side and west side of it is situated two mountain peaks named PavaManan & Pariyathran. South of Meru is adorned by the peaks Kelash and Kariveeram and the north of the mountain Meru has got two peaks named Makaragiri and Thrishringam. 1) Mount Kailasha has got 6 yojana (Vedic measure of distance that was used in ancient India. It is equivalent to about 8.0 km) height. Devas (celestial beings) daily visits here. The place where the abode of kubera is situated in kailasha is the home of different types of celestial being such as Yaksha, Kinnara, Rakshasa, Garuda ,Mathanga and Gandharva. ( According to Maha Bharatha Sabha parva chapter 141). 2) According to the Maha Bharatha, Vana Parva chapter 109 and 141 mount Kailsh is the abode of Lord Shiva and Kubera. 3) Once in order to please lord Shiva, Maha Vishnu did his penance at the Mount Kailash (Maha Bharatha, Adi Parva Chapter 222– poems from 33 to 40). 4) Mount Mainaka situates north of Mount Kailash (Maha bharatha, Sabha Parva Chapter 3) 5) Once sage Vyasa visited Mount Kailasha (Maha bharatha, Sabha Parva Chapter 43 Poem 17) 6) A king named Sagaran with his two queens went to Kailash to do penance (Maha bharatha vanaparva chapter 106) 7) The great King Bhageeratha in order to bring the celestial river Ganges to the earth went to Kailash to do the penance. 8) The legendary Kalyana Sougandhika flower pond is situated in Kailasha. It is mentioned in the VanaParva that Panadavas visited the Kailash Mountain during their VanaVasam( exile in to forrest). 9) Kamadenu (Divine bovine-goddess described as the mother of all cows. She is a miraculous "cow of plenty" who provides her owner whatever he desires) has done its penance at Kailasha mountain ( Maha Bharatha Anushasana parva chapter 83)
